Do you know the remaining validity on your passport?

Here are the facts:

  1. Most airlines and countries are requiring a minimum of 6-months validity on your passport before leaving the country.

TAKEAWAY:  If your passport expires in October 2024, you need to renew by April 2024 to safely travel internationally this summer.

Do you know how many pages are left in your current passport?

Here are the facts:

  1. You are required to have 2-4 full open pages when traveling internationally
  2. The US Department of State no longer adds pages to your passport.  You must renew for an entirely new book, with a new photo and passport number.
  3. There are two sizes of passport books issued currently – 32 or 52 pages.  Make sure to tick the larger book option (same cost).

TAKEAWAY:  Don’t wait until you’re talking to a customs agent to realize you don’t have enough pages for entry. Something as small as remaining pages in your book can delay your travels.

I want my family to join me on tour, but the kids don’t have passports yet and I’m already gone. Don’t both parents need to be present for the appointment?

  1. You can provide a notarized document to the passport acceptance clerk in your absence, so your partner can apply on their own with the children.

TAKEAWAY:  No need to worry!  TRC can assist with coordinating a notary to your hotel/venue.

I keep losing my passport! Will that be a problem when trying to renew?

  1. True story – if you lose more than 1 passport, you may be issued a 1-year passport instead of a 10-year passport.  This may continue for years.  If so, you will not be able to renew your 1-year passport until you’ve had it in your possession for more than 9 months to prove you can hold onto it.
  2. The US Department of State does not take a lost passport lightly.
  3. Tours might not hire you if you don’t have a valid passport.

TAKEAWAY:  Don’t lose your passport.
